Database Analyst Team Leader
Reporting to the Director Service Delivery, the Database Analyst Team Leader is responsible to provide, under general supervision, technical and administrative support for the companys database infrastructure. As well as supporting the day-to-day operation of the systems, this position will undertake projects and activities related to the design, selection, evaluation, and implementation of new applications and technology within the company. This individual will also coordinate the activities of other DBAs on the team and coach them to increase their skill level and productivity.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide timely support to ensure efficient and reliable operation of all corporate database infrastructures, including backups, break / fix support, patching, upgrading, database server tuning and replacement as required.
Support and monitor database performance and identify the need for adding, changing or removing indices, reorganization of indices and/or data, new or changed aggregates, new functionality, sql tuning, etc.
Maintain proper documentation and support internal IT processes. Documentation to include internal team support documents, database design standards published for developers and any other documents as needed.
Support SDM IT processes such as change management, incident management, problem management, time sheets including implement all changes, upgrades, etc. according to Company change control procedures.
Act as a consultant to both application groups and other departments on the selection, evaluation, implementation and use of database related technology.
Undertake projects related to the design, selection, acquisition, and implementation of database systems and tools
Maintain an up-to-date understanding of database technology and determine how advances in this technology can be utilized within Shoppers Drug Mart
Evaluate database and related software as directed, preparing reports and recommendations
Interface with vendors as required
Define production operations handover
Coordinate, lead and direct DBA team members to ensure timely and successful implementation of projects and enhancements to production as well as support of existing databases.
Ensure that tactical decisions are made in accordance with SDM standards.
Coordinate database technology problem resolution.
Evaluate and recommend training for DBA team
Conduct DBA performance appraisals
Assist the manager of the DBA team to create effective team processes
- 3 years+ experience as a team leader
- Minimum 4 years experience in an enterprise UNIX environment as a database analyst or administrator
- Working knowledge of database design and data modeling principles
- UNIX scripting experience
- Previous experience with data warehouses / data marts and ETL tool experience an asset
- Post secondary education in a related field.
- Analytic, diagnostic and problem solving skills
- Able to work with minimum supervision, taking ownership for the successful completion of work assignments
- Detail oriented
- Self motivated with a strong desire to improve personal skills and knowledge
- Strong verbal and written skills
- Strong leadership skills
