As a Database Administrator within the Corporate Enterprise Data Warehouse Architecture team, the candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of data and information from systems and application business requirements to logical and physical design.
The Database Administrator is responsible for activities spanning the full EDW physical data development life cycle from sourcing through transformation and storage to archiving. The individual interacts with vendors and support personnel to ensure a reliable 7x24 environment is available for developers and consumers.
The key responsibilities of the Database Administrator include administration for databases, servers and file systems as well as knowledge and content management. The Database Administrator must be capable of designing systems that perform efficiently and effectively to support data loading as well as data extraction by a globally disbursed user environment. In collaboration with the data architecture team, the successful candidate will be responsible for planning, design, and implementation activities associated with data housed within RIM's Enterprise Data Warehouse.
The successful candidate will work closely with the technical teams in designing and building the data structures required to support deliverables and ensuring delivery of efficient and scalable models. In some cases, the candidate will also work closely with software and hardware vendors and business consultants during planning and implementation of systems projects. Responsibilities will also include supporting the software design teams, resolving technical issues, creating and reviewing data design documents, certification testing, and serving as the liaison between the development and support teams.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of designing, building, and maintaining large scale enterprise data warehouse environments. The candidate must be able to balance short term project needs with long term business goals and must be able to advise the management team on strategic technical direction. Broad experience in software systems architecture, design, and development is a requirement, along with senior experience in the following areas:
- VLDB warehouse applications
- Data warehouse appliance administration, preferably HP Neoview
- Reporting and analytical procedures
- Data integration and ETL procedures, preferably Informatica
- Database technologies
The successful candidate must be able to understand a wide variety of database technologies and components and how they interact to maintain an efficient data architecture as well as be able to write technical specifications and other documents in a clear, accurate and concise manner. Knowledge of reporting applications is a plus.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- A Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Computer Science (or equivalent) is required
- 10+ years of senior software/database administrative experience in a large data warehouse environment
- 5+ years experience administering a large multi terabyte warehouse appliances (Neoview, Teradata, Neteeza, Exadata. etc)
- Experience tuning/administering/building/supporting data in a MPP architecture
- Deep working knowledge of ETL and data integration processes
- Expert level database performance tuning skills and expertise
- Expert skill level working in unix/linux
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience producing/maintaining formal technical documentation for configuration and implementations
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
