Reporting to the Systems Engineering Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for analyzing, architecting, and implementing the database infrastructure required to support IATA's automation initiatives to provide highly performing, highly available, and flexible database platforms - covering both the production and non-production landscapes. He/she will work across all phases of automation projects: blueprint, realization, final preparation, go-live, and then transition to outsourced operations.


Define and maintain technical blueprints and road-maps for the database infrastructure building blocks essentially on Oracle and MS SQLServer;
Design, implement, and document database maintenance, security, back-up, and recovery processes including disaster recovery procedures;
Work closely with IT Delivery and Application Support teams to gather and analyze requirements for database systems, including data modeling, performance, and scalability requirements as well as data security;
Work closely with system engineers, onshore and off-shore outsourced operations teams and vendors for building and operationalizing new applications databases and ensuring proper licensing of IATA database products;
Participate with peers in 3rd level problem solving and RCAs in support of outsourced database operations;
Provides performance tuning of database systems for query and data loading performance, including data partitioning, indexing, etc.
Capacity planning;
Installing and testing new versions Oracle and MS SQLServer;
Authoring internal documentation, such as blueprints, diagrams, build guides, and standard operating procedures.


Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field;
At least four (4) years in database management systems including storage;
Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills;
Working knowledge of Windows servers and cluster technologies;
Working knowledge of Linux Red Hat servers and Linux cluster technologies would be a plus;
Working knowledge of the principles and practices of systems analysis, data modeling, and database design;
Strong knowledge of Oracle 11g Standard and Enterprise editions, RAC, Partitioning;
Strong knowledge of MS SQLServer 2003/2008 SE and EE editions and MS Clusters;
Strong interpersonal and communication skills (spoken and written English) in a multi-cultural environment. Knowledge of other language would be an asset.
