Working under the general direction of the Director of the Engineering Computing Facility, the incumbent will be responsible for the effective and timely implementation of new systems technologies in the Engineering Computing Facility at the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering. The incumbent will be responsible for implementing the ECFPC upgrade from Windows XP (x86) to Windows 7 (x64). Key responsibilities include the following: planning, evaluating, specifying, installing, and configuring new server hardware, server software (including WSUS, WDS, and SCCM), desktop hardware, desktop software, and making required network modifications; implementing a secure server and network infrastructure to deploy operating system images, application packages, and operating system and software updates; implementing a system for monitoring application execution and usage; incorporating existing administrative Linux functions into the new Windows 7 environment; testing each application in the ECF suite for compatibility with Windows 7x64; mitigating any compatibility issues; developing operation documentation and troubleshooting guides; implementing AD Group Policies to prevent users from materially modifying the computing environment; researching and recommending equipment acquisitions; and handling complaints or service issues.
Education: University degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
: Five (5) years of experience in a highly-managed Microsoft Windows Active Directory environment, including experience in the design and management of AD DS in a heterogeneous Windows/Linux environment. Expert knowledge of Windows Server 2008 R2, System Center Configuration Manager R3, Windows Software Update Services, Windows Deployment Services, Microsoft Deployment Toolkit, Windows AIK, Windows 7 Group Policy development and deployment, Windows Powershell and scripting, application and server virtualization, Remote Desktop Services, AD Certificate Services, and SAMBA. Additionally, a thorough knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, WMI, vPro, and
AMT is required, as well as previous experience integrating Linux Kerberos authentication into Active Directory.
Skills: Thorough knowledge of 3Com switch technologies, network cabling, graphics workstations, tape backup devices, server and PC hardware, UPS's, and peripherals including printers and scanners. Must have experience with the installation and configuration of large Engineering/CAD software applications not specifically designed to run in a highly-managed, multiuser environment. Good keyboarding skills.

Pay Scale Group and Hiring Rate
: 12N - - $73,741 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $94,223 - Pay Rates effective July 1, 2010.
