POSTION TITLE:       Senior Database Administrator

ABOUT THE COMPANY:

Texada Software is an independent, publicly-held corporation based in Guelph Ontario that provides software solutions to the equipment rental industry. The technology-driven software products we offer are specifically designed to provide solutions for the equipment rental enterprise, and are fully scalable to meet the needs of any size operation.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior DBA leads Junior DBA's in the implementation and maintenance of the database component in Texada's products, and assists Texada's customers in the planning, support, and management of Texada's databases.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

 

College Diploma or University Degree in Computer Science or related field

Experience:

 

3+ years of Oracle database administration; familiarity with MS SQL Server

           

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Strong knowledge of relational database technology and relational database design
  • Strong documentation skills, oral and written communication skills
  • Independent learner and analytical problem solver
  • Capable of managing multiple projects at the same time
  • Performs under limited supervision
  • Experience with scripting programming (bash and one of Perl or Python)
  • Experience working with MS SQL
  • Familiar with Unix shell commands, Unix administration experience an asset
  • Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures
  • Proven ability to lead a team and work as part of a broader team to achieve goals

TYPICAL DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Design, implement, and maintain database schema
  • Maintain reliability of data and databases
  • Develop and implement standards for database installation, maintenance and configuration
  • Setup, monitor, and maintain disaster recovery solutions for customers' production databases
  • Write and tune SQL queries and PL/SQL packages
  • Develop and maintain shell scripts
  • Assist in recommendations of purchases of new hardware
  • Troubleshoot application database errors
  • Perform data conversion tasks
  • Lead and manage Junior DBA staff

DATABASE DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT:

  • Designs and develops database applications in response to development projects and our customer's information needs
  • Defines and ensures that databases meet the quality standards and security requirements
  • Researches and keeps abreast of latest technologies and best practices
  • Ensure that the hardware is adequate to support the databases and make recommendations when upgrades are required

  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness
  • Meets productivity standards; completes work in timely manner; strives to increase productivity; works efficiently
  • Adaptable in managing competing demands
  • Follows instructions, responds to managements direction; takes responsibility for own actions

  • Demonstrates the importance of our customers, their needs and the service we provide
  • Works with and communicates to technical staff and end users
  • Collaboratively works with other departments in a production development and maintenance IT environment

 

MANAGEMENT:

  • Provides the day to day supervision to Junior DBA's
  • Manages multiple projects and achieves timelines
  • Collaboratively works with other departments in a production development and maintenance IT environment
  • Trains and mentors Junior DBA's
  • Makes recommendations and participates in the development of their staff
  • Working in conjunction with the Senior Managers, recruits and hires all staff in their department
