Technical Team Lead - DBA - The Economical Insurance Group

Description
As Technical Team Lead, you together with your team will be responsible for the support and delivery of Data Base Services, including but not limited to Oracle, UDB/DB2, and SQL/Server technologies. This will be accomplished through a combination of providing technical direction as well as coaching and directing your team members to ensure required solutions are delivered as designed to meet customer needs. 
Reporting to the Data Domain Manager, ITS, you will be part of a dynamic Application Practices team.  For day to day reporting the Technical Team Lead for the Database Analyst team will report to a Service Manager or Project Manager.
 
Specific Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for leading 6 – 15 assigned resources
  • Management of the teams work-plans and schedules
  • Coordinate and monitor team activity
  • Provide performance management on a regular basis
  • Ensure staff training and development needs are met
  • Become a part of the Technical Team Lead community of practice and help in identifying areas for improvement within the team and externally as well
  • Close coordination with Project/Service Managers, Domain Manager and Workforce Management around capacity planning and resource allocation
  • Work closely with other TTLs in the data domain to encourage consistency of practices and processes
  • Work closely with Technical Specialist for technical guidance and architecture
  • Participating in / leading development tools or business application purchases from external vendors
  • Participating in / leading team meetings
  • Working with all areas of the Information Technology Services department to co-ordinate releases and implementations into the production environment
  • Producing and maintaining relevant solution documentation
  • Supporting production applications when necessary (Monitoring integration infrastructure)
  • Capturing / analyzing / negotiating / clarifying requirements (i.e. customer, system, performance)
  • Participating in the creation and execution of development and implementation plans
  • Designing, coding, and testing database technology solutions to meet requirements

Qualifications:

  • University degree or college / information technology institute diploma in related discipline
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with others to achieve results
  • Comprehensive administration and development/design knowledge of data and database concepts specifically with one or more of Oracle, UDB/DB2, or SQL Server technologies
  • Functional understanding of AIX, zOS, and Windows in addition to XML and Object-Oriented Analysis and Design
  • Preference will be given to multi-skilled candidates having previous work experience as an application developer involved in the design and development of systems
  • Having strong data skills and the ability to work with Data Analysts on the construction of database Schemas is also an asset
  • Working with external customers to design and deliver system integration solutions is an asset
  • Previous work experience in the Property and Casualty insurance industry is an asset
