Lead Database Developer
The Enterprise Information Management (EIM) team at Moneris Solutions deals with the technologies, applications and practices for the collection, integration, analysis, and presentation of business information. EIM services internal and external systems/client groups by providing/delivering data feeds, ad-hoc and standard reporting using various tools.
The Lead Database Developer will be responsible for the EIM Data Repositories including the Operation Data Store (ODS), Moneris Datamarts (MDM), Moneris Datawarehouse (MDW) and the staging databases. This position offers a person the opportunity to be exposed to new technologies while continuing to hone their existing skills within a fast-paced and evolving team environment.
Key Responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
. Work closely with EIM team members (Manager, Business Systems Analyst and other Developers) for all data warehousing initiatives.
. Work closely with the technology operations groups (Database and Systems Administrators) on technical projects, as well as initial and ongoing performance enhancements and tuning, capacity planning and backup/restore procedures.
. Responsible for all additions and changes to the MDM/MDW and staging databases and versioning of all database code.
. Ensure all documentation for databases is up-to-date and maintain the DFD (Data Flow Diagrams) i.e. Metadata, Data dictionary, Data Model.
. Data Integrity: Perform regular checks or create a process to check for data integrity on the MDM/MDW and Staging databases.
. Dimension and lookup data: Make sure all dimension data and lookup tables are populated regularly.
. Change Management (impact assessment and sizing): Assess impact on database when sources are added or changed.
. EIM technical and data warehouse liaison: respond to questions regarding EIM environments and infrastructure, particularly the Operational Data Store, MDM/MDW.
. Improvements: Look for ways to improve and enhance the MDW and Staging databases and prepare proposals for review.
. Research and Exploration of new data: Explore internally or externally for required data additions to the MDW or staging databases. Create contacts internally and externally with individuals that may have the desired information. Acquire data definitions, data availability (metadata).
Required Qualifications and Competencies:
. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or in a related discipline
. Experience with research, documentation, presentation, networking, business and systems knowledge
. 2 to 5 years of experience with the following:
o Relational Database Management Systems (SQL Server)
o Data management techniques, ETL manager / Data Migrator, secure file transfer protocol (SFTP), SQL, data modelling and Connect Direct
o Various data storage types and documentation such as databases, flat files, copybooks, and data definition language (DDLs)
o Manuals/ diagrams - Operations Manuals, Unified Modeling Language, Data Models (Logical, Conceptual and Physical Data Models)
. Ability to document functional and technical specifications, design specifications, etc.
. Online Research - Microsoft Developer Network (MDSN)
. Analytical ability
. Strong written and verbal communication skills
. Ability to interact cross-functionally, take instruction from colleagues and effectively manage tasks and priorities
. Adaptability, flexibility and ability to learn new concepts quickly
Experience with the following is strongly preferred:
o database design, tools and techniques
o data modelling, integration techniques and Data Movement,
