Accountabilities

Overall Purpose: Maintenance and monitoring of the technical MS SQL and DB/2 database environment; database architecture and design; database security; database tuning, optimization, and rationalization; vendor/supplier and asset management; incident logging and tracking; problem solving and troubleshooting; project management; process improvement, and; customer service. The expected deliverables and results fit in with the ‘adaptable infrastructure’ with key emphasis on rationalization, optimization, standardization, and simplification of infrastructure technology and functions.

Accountabilities:
•Database management, maintenance and design: monitors capacity and status of all components involved in system performance
•Assists and consults on day-to-day operations, management and integrity of the Windows server platform environment >100 servers
•Acts as ‘n’ level incident support, providing expertise to ensure system incidents are resolved in the standard and timely manner
•Responsible for providing proactive problem management using key indicators of system health to prevent incidents
•Active participation (and/or lead) in building and implementing IT solutions and Infrastructure projects
•Acts on behalf of Technical Services team as a subject matter expert for business and technical projects
•May initiate and develop initial project concepts and ideas, including planning, business case and requirements, and budgeting
•Contribute to creation and/or adherence to standard IT policies and procedures, including Change & Release Management, Incident & Problem Management, Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity planning.
•Contribute to creation and management of and/or adherence to network and information security policies to ensure data integrity
•Keep abreast of technology changes and innovations in the marketplace that may impact the organization
•Provides superior client experience and strengthens relationship with business partner
•Routinely provides stakeholders with status updates on issues and technology direction

Qualifications

•Minimum 8 years experience in Information Technology; with 4 years in Senior Database Administrator role
•MCDBA 2005/2008; MCSE/MCSA 2003/2008 and ITIL Foundations a strong asset
•Post secondary technical or business diploma and/or equivalent working experience
•Microsoft SQL Server 2000-2008 – advanced administration and operations/ Microsoft SQL Server 2000-2005 – design and architecture/ IBM DB/2 operations, maintenance, design and architecture
•Microsoft Active Directory 2000/2003 – design and implementation concepts
•Database performance monitoring and tuning, Schema design, code review, stored procedure design
•Development languages: C, C++, C#, VB, XML
•Database and Windows security – core and advanced concepts
•Incident/Problem/Change Management, Configuration/Asset Management, Service Level Management
•Teamwork and cooperation, customer insight, dealing with ambiguity, change leadership, ability to resolve conflict, patience when dealing with difficult individuals, strategic influencing
•This position may require overtime, on-call support and flexibility in work shifts
