You will have the opportunity toâ?¦   

  • Provide technical expertise in administering, maintaining, developing and implementing policies and procedures for the integrity of the Companyâ?Ts databases.
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
  • Provides ongoing technical support and resolves any production issues that arise with the production databases;
  • Designs, develops and maintains a monitoring system that verifies the quality of the production, development and quality assurance databases and automatically sends a page or email to the appropriate support person;
  • Designs, implements, tests and maintains backup routines for all production databases;
  • Designs, implements, tests and maintains disaster recovery systems for important production databases and the software environment that supports them;
  • Installs, configures and upgrades Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server software and ensures new software and database patches are applied as required;
  • Monitors database and server activities, analyzes system performance and presents activity reports to management;
  • Designs, implements and maintains database security including managing user accounts, minimum required privileges and suspicious activity;
  • Develops and maintains SQL and PL/SQL programs, Korn Shell scripts, triggers, procedures, packages for various automated jobs for all the production and development databases;
  • Designs and creates new databases for new applications or for development or testing;
  • Designs, implements and maintains the backup strategy for all the Oracle and SQL Server databases.
  • Designs, develops and maintains menu driven programs to perform the routine database administration activities in development and quality assurance environments;
  • Collaborates with development and design teams in tuning applications for optimal performance and in designing new databases and new database objects;
  • Monitors database growth and resources utilization and provides database and server capacity planning for applications expansion; prepares and presents to management proposals for hardware upgrades;
  • Prepares and executes the technical design of new applications or migration of application to different versions;
  • Assists the manager in maintaining the required level of licensing and support contracts for all the databases.
 
Skills and Experience:
 
  • Ability to troubleshoot and maintain the integrity of the databases;
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills;
  • Manage stress and accept challenge and change in a fast-paced environment;
  • Maintain knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise;
  • Interpret data models and to develop database structures;
  • Use standard diagramming techniques to design and develop computer data models;
  • Implement and troubleshoot programming changes and modifications;
  • Program, configure, manage, maintain, backup and restore the operation of complex relational databases;
  • Ability to develop and manipulate large, complex data sets;
  • Good technical writing skills;
  • Ability to install, maintain, modify, and upgrade database software: Oracle versions 8i, 9i, 10g and 11g running on Sun Solaris and SQL Server 2005 and 2008;
  • Ability to operate on a scheduled 24-hour on-call basis;
  • Ability to provide technical guidance to professional personnel in area of expertise;
  • Combination of education in a technical field and minimum four years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified;
  • Knowledge of computer and/or network security systems, applications, procedures, and techniques; and
  • Knowledge of data integrity methods and techniques.
