Provide operational support and database design of  Oracle  databases at a senior level, reporting to a Oracle team lead. Responsibilities include design, plan, and build new Oracle database systems and ensure the consistent, efficient operation of existing Oracle database systems. Lastly, the position will require contribution to the on-going efforts of  IT to maintain high system availability and optimum performance, and enforcement of corporate security and database standards.  This position reports to the Manager responsible primarily for Oracle database systems.
  • Support, administer, optimize and maintain production and development Oracle 9i/10g/11i database environments running on UNIX HP & Solaris platforms
  • Provide database design and implementation of  Oracle databases
  • Provide 2nd/3rd level support, including on-call support through rotational basis
  • Diagnose and remedy Oracle database problems, following company incident mgmt process
  • Provide coding guidance, review and optimization of Oracle PL/SQL packages
  • Provide extensive project and developer support
  • Provide support of Oracle partitioning
  • Provide support of maintenance, and monitoring of Oracle databases
  • Provide support of Oracle backups through RMAN facility
  • Provide database capacity planning
  • Provide support for database inventory reporting process
  • Provide support for database license usage/compliance reporting
  • Provide high-level instance and statement level tuning, and optimum data loading techniques
  • Setup procedures to refresh databases environments
  • Plan, install, and upgrade database binaries and instances
  • Provide database space management and monitoring
  • Provide and implement optimum physical database design
  • Provide schema management for objects such tables, views, indexes etc, and ensure they meet internal database standards
  • Complete support and handling of various internal Trouble-ticket work requests via corporate Help Desk
  • Implement and enforce proper database security
  • Control and monitor user access to the database
  • Plan/rehearse/support Oracle database recovery plans
  • Plan, configure and administer Oracle  DATA GUARD & GOLDENGATE
  • Install, and administer Oracle OEM, Grid Control, and management packs
  • Support Oracle databases through TOAD for Oracle management tool
  • Configure/trouble-shoot Oracle connectivity/communication software
  • Evaluate/enforce database requirements w.r.t.  service level agreements ("SLAs")
  • Develop/coordinate/support system implementation notices for "SLA" impacted database changes 


  • University degree or diploma in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related
  • Minimum 5-8 years relevant work experience in a Oracle DBA role, with experience in Oracle 9i/10g/11i  Enterprise Edition with emphasis on implementation, configuration, upgrading and administration experience on UNIX HP and Solaris platforms
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical and technical trouble-shooting skills mandatory
  • Team player attitude a must
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are absolutely essential
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible in technology, with strong demonstrated experience in adapting to different technologies
  • Demonstrated experience with Oracle PL/SQL is mandatory
  • Experience with Oracle OEM, Grid Control, Oracle change management pack, Diagnostic pack, configuration management pack, and Tuning pack is a definite requirement
  • Experience with TOAD for Oracle management tool a definite asset
  • Extensive experience in UNIX scripting is an absolute must
  • Extensive experience in Oracle schema management
  • Experience in database capacity planning required
  • Knowledge of Oracle internals mandatory
  • Experience with Oracle RMAN a must
  • Mandatory experience with Oracle maintenance
  • Solid experience in Oracle DATA GUARD
  • Some experience with GOLDENGATE desired
  • Experience in Oracle RAC very beneficial
  • Oracle certification designations beneficial
  • Some experience in EMC BCVs  needed
  • Knowledge in EMC SRDF technology desirable
  • Working experience with 3rd party tools such, BMC Patrol, and BMC Control-M is a definite asset
  • Working experience with 3rd party Remedy tool as vehicle for incident management is a definite plus
  • Knowledge/experience with ERWin modeling software an assset
