Role Summary
We are presently recruiting for a Contract Jr. Database Analyst in the Information Services department.

CPPIB's network and server infrastructure is outsourced. CPPIB's internal technical IS staff are responsible for deploying, integrating, managing, and administering the server based applications that directly service the business. The technical IS staff oversee and direct the outsourcing service provider on the functional and operational requirements of the technical infrastructure and ensure alignment of the infrastructure with business needs.

The Database Administrator is a member of CPPIB's technical IS staff and will support both operational and project related database activities. The DBA will apply excellent communication, problem-solving, change management, and systems administration skills to ensure that CPPIB's databases and related operations are accurate, up-to-date, available, secure, and performing as the business requires.

Role-Specific Accountabilities
  • Works extensively with IS staff, service providers, and end-users to support and maintain CPPIB's complex and quickly growing database environment
  • Installs, configures, tests, maintains, monitors, optimizes, and troubleshoots databases and database servers in production, quality assurance, and development environments
  • Performs daily database system health checks and ensures follow-up from DBA team for any issues identified
  • Implements, monitors, and tests systems and procedures for database availability, backup, disaster recovery, and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets
  • Administers appropriate end user database access control solutions and procedures
  • Executes and maintains change control and testing processes for modifications to databases
  • Executes scheduled changes, maintenance, and administration of database environment to meet requirements of business
  • Provides first-level database support for end user issues in a timely and accurate fashion
  • Ensure creation and tracking of documentation for technical procedures, policies, and standard processes
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Manager - Infrastructure Services

If you possess the following, we'd like to hear from you:
  • Knowledge of and experience with administering, supporting, troubleshooting enterprise RDBMS: Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle Database, Sybase SQL Server, IBM DB2
  • Experience with ANSI SQL, T-SQL, or PL/SQL
  • Experience with RDBMS management tools: SQL Server Management Studio, Oracle Grid Control / Oracle Enterprise Manager, Sybase Central
  • Experience with server operating systems: MS Windows, Sun Solaris, Red Hat Enterprise Linux
  • Familiarity with SANs and shared storage infrastructure, especially NetApp
  • Self-motivated individual engaged in technology, with an attention to detail,
    and able to work independently to achieve goals with minimal direct supervision
  • Knowledge of Trading, Financial Services, Investment, Pension, or Banking environments is a significant asset
  • Familiarity with systems management and operations processes and tools (problem management, change management, configuration management, scheduling, monitoring)
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and time management skills
    with the ability to work in a fast paced and dynamic team-based environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with very strong customer service focus and a proven ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups on technical issues
  • Ability to research complex technologies and make appropriate, reasoned implementation recommendations
