The Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) is seeking an experienced data analyst for its Genetic Epidemiology and Biostatistics Platform. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of an innovative bioinformatics infrastructure for Ontario Health Study (OHS) http://ontariohealthstudy.ca. The OHS is an important long-term study that will help us understand the causes, prevention and treatment of common diseases such as cancer, heart disease, asthma, and diabetes. This project involves developing large volume databases and high-performance web-based applications for data processing and reporting.
We are looking for a data analyst who has experience in designing and implementing BI software and systems, including integration with databases and data warehouses and has a deep appreciation of all aspects of a successful software development life cycle.
The BI specialist will lead efforts for merging BI platform with the existing enterprise systems and web applications. No formal experience for the biology/medical domain is necessary, but may be an asset in the evaluation process.
. Conduct research and make recommendations on BI products, services and standards in support of procurement and development efforts;
. Develop the semantic layer, metadata, reports and report definitions;
. Develop graphs and portal interfaces;
. Participate in software and databases specification, architecture and assist in the design of databases and data warehouses to ensure interoperability with the BI solutions;
. Produce effective and manageable ETL infrastructure for the BI system;
. Document, code and unit test software solutions;
. Implement and develop functional expertise and provide ongoing functional support of new business intelligence reporting and analytical tool;
. Develop requirements for data models, develop and maintain data dashboards and forecasting models;
. Deliver end-user training and tutorials; provide technical support as necessary;
. Adhere to software engineering 'best practices', and specific software development policies and procedures in place at OICR (and contribute to the development of such policies);
. Ensure high level of BI availability through support functions and in-depth testing. Performance-tune as necessary;
. Provide timely feedback to the manager regarding project progress.
. Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, software engineering, or other related fields;
. 6 or more years of work experience as data analyst;
. Comprehensive data warehouse analysis and design experience with strong/expert knowledge of data methodologies and modeling;
. Strong fluency with ETL tools. Expertise in Jaspersoft preferred;
. Strong/Expert fluency in database programming and proficiency using MySQL, SQLServer;
. Strong ability to build front-end BI applications according with specifications;
. Extensive data modeling experience;
. Implement and develop functional expertise and provide ongoing functional support of new business intelligence reporting and analytical tool; develop requirements for data models, develop and maintain data dashboards and forecasting models;
. Proficiency in the PC and Unix/Linux environment;
. Strong fluency in unit and integration testing;
. Strong understanding of relational databases structures, principals and practices;
. Working experience with SVN, JIRA and full project management and development life cycle experience;
. Must have excellent communications and interpersonal skills.
