The candidate will be part of the database services team, who is accountable for a high performance, reliable and highly available database environment at Customer Insight and Decision Support (CI & DS) .The team is responsible for the design and implementation of database schemas, conducting regular performance testing/tuning and supporting key business processes in the data warehouse environment. Other responsibilities include the implementation of vendor software patches, capacity planning, the maintenance of operational and disaster recovery procedures and the scheduling and documentation of the data warehouse operations / tasks (data loads, archival, security and backup).
The position requires the candidate to be on a 24X7 support of the database environment (pager rotation system). He / She is accountable for a successful completion of the database processes at business cycles (monthly, quarterly and weekly) and will provide a first line support to the database users questions about data usage, integrity or the data model.
Working with the database team, he/she will monitor the business use and performance of the data warehouse and provide process improvement recommendations and guidelines to the users and developers to help improve productivity. The candidate will also explore industry data warehousing tools and best practices and evaluate their applicability at CI & DS. He/She will also manage and track requests for database changes and prioritize work based on business needs and available resources.
· . University or college degree in Computer Science
· . Sybase database administration (Sybase ASE and Sybase IQ) certifications are assets
· . 5+ Years of experience as a Sybase DBA building and managing data warehouses, data marts and databases on a UNIX platform
· . Advanced knowledge and experience in performance and tuning of Sybase ASE
· . Advanced knowledge and experience in performance and tuning of Sybase IQ is an asset
