Main Purpose & Function
The SAP BASIS Administrator is responsible for the safe and effective operation of the SAP system through database and system administration, configuration management, and operations. The administrator is responsible for on-going production support. He/she also acts as a technical advisor to the SAP Business Support team. In order to perform this role, the SAP BASIS Administrator has access to a wide range of sensitive and business critical information.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
The SAP BASIS Administrator will transport change requests across the SAP landscape, ensuring proper sequencing and minimal risk to the overall environment. Evaluate and install new database software and SAP; apply SAP technical / system patches and support packages; manage / optimize system performance and tuning; plus do SAP application and database administration.
In addition, the position is responsible for: monitoring the database and SAP R/3 environments and implementing remedial action when problems occur; guiding team members in the analysis and resolution of complex problems: including analysing the business and technical risks of possible solutions based on knowledge of SAP data structures and the relationships between the modules; researching, and analysing and applying SAP support notes to resolve identified problems. The position must also work independently, or as part of a team, to analyse and resolve operational and project issues with the SAP environment; work with other City Database Administrators in resolving common hardware, operating system and database problems; and other duties as required. Has access to a wide range of sensitive and business critical information, including payroll and benefits, financials and vendor data. The level of access given to the SAP Administrator is the most comprehensive of any SAP team member and enables him/her to perform any transaction in different levels of the SAP environment (application and database).
The successful candidate will have completed a diploma/degree in Computer Science with an emphasis on Database Management, with 2 years of experience supporting a SAP environment, and 5 years as a Database Administrator. A SAP Certification is desirable.
The successful candidate must also demonstrate technical knowledge of SAP, UDB, UNIX and general system operation functions; knowledge of SAP database, data and table structures and their inter-relationships; knowledge of the SAP modules and the integration between the application and the database; and demonstrated knowledge of CTS (SAP Correction & Transports). Strong analytical and problem solving skills; excellent oral and written skills; and demonstrated high level of trust working in an environment with secure and confidential information is a must. In addition, the successful candidate must have the ability to act as an internal consultant: primarily to work with the SAP business analysts to make technical recommendations based on understanding of SAP business processes and data; ability to manage mulitple priorities and respond to requests in a timely manner; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts to provide information and assistance; ability to take full responsibility for the SAP BASIS environment; and good working knowledge of office productivity tools (MS Office Applications - Excel, Powerpoint, Visio, etc).
Experience with SAP Netweaver technology such as Portal, PI, Solution Manager, BI/BW, SAP Content Server, MDM Catalogue, Trex indexing, SAP SRM, Readsoft AP Automation; is highly desirable.
An Enhanced Reliablity Security clearance check is a requirement of this position.
