Position Summary

The DBA Team Lead will be responsible for all the aspects of database administration and data modeling, and code changes on production environments. He or she will be responsible for installing and implementing a high availability database environment, and troubleshooting a highly critical production environment with 99.99% uptime. He or she will also be doing database performance tuning and capacity planning. This person will work closely with other DBAs in the Database Services group as well as Business Information Systems and Infrastructure & Operations teams.


This position is responsible for the direct supervision of others in the Database Services group. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Primary Responsibilities & Duties

  • Interface with internal departmental groups to improve and implement process, procedures and automation
  • Regular database capacity planning related to database growth and system utilization, trend analysis and predicting future database resource requirements
  • Working closely with other team leads and their technical teams to ensure delivery of database services within the performance targets set
  • Ability to design migration / upgrade / consolidation solutions for SQL databases between various platforms and versions
  • Mentoring and knowledge transfer to other DBAs
  • Develop and implement database administration policies and procedures including instance security guidelines
  • Configuration, maintenance, and deployment of SQL Server 2005 and 2008 database systems
  • Create database backup and restore policy
  • Data replication management (transactional and merge models): implementation of publications, subscriptions, replication validation
  • Deployment of T-SQL scripts from development to production
  • Data manipulation through DTS/SSIS packages
  • SQL Reporting Services server maintenance
  • SQL Analysis Services server maintenance
  • Perform database maintenance functions
  • Support application programmers in the testing of database applications
  • Participate in on call rotation schedule
  • Pro-active and reactive performance analysis, monitoring, troubleshooting and resolution of issues
  • Adhere to the IT change management process which states that any and all changes that impact production systems must be entered into SDE and follow the necessary approval process prior to execution

Specific Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Experience in configuring, maintaining, and deploying SQL Server 2005 and 2008 database systems
  • Experience in writing T-SQL ad hoc queries, stored procedures, views, and triggers
  • Experience in creating and deploying DTS and SSIS packages
  • Experience working with SQL Replication 2005/2008
  • Experience working with SQL Security model (SQL 2005/2008)
  • Familiar  with of SQL Analysis Services concepts and objects
  • Experience in creating and maintaining SQL maintenance plans
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues related to SQL Server database systems
  • Ability to work effectively with business analysts and software developers
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Working knowledge of hardware configuration and networking
